Kiwi Snapshot – 1Day – $195 (adult) - $146 (Child under 12) (incl GST)
(Prices valid until 30th April 2012)

We will personally guide you around the Matakana Coast, an area which typifies New Zealand’s history. You will see stunning views and understand why many New Zealanders (including present and former Prime Ministers) holiday here.

We will provide our guests with a:

  • typical ‘kiwi’ morning tea;
  • visit to either a vineyard (including wine tasting) or a well known ceramic studio;
  • visit to a Regional Park; and
  • native tree to plant to help revegetate the planet.

We will show and explain:

  • the natural beauty of the area including beaches, harbours, farmland, vineyards and views of the Hauraki Gulf
  • Maori and European settlements
  • the unique Matakana Village, the first ‘slow town’ in New Zealand.The goals of the ‘slow town’ movement include preserving our cultural heritage (www.slowmovement.com)
  • dairy, sheep and beef farming which hard working pioneers established by breaking the land in
  • current day land use including market gardening (Matakana and Omaha Flats), wine growing (Matakana, Warkworth and Tawharanui) and pastoral farming (Matakana, Puhoi and Warkworth)
  • other activities intrinsically related to local resources (pottery, fishing and beekeeping)
  • the revegetation of wetlands or coastal forests.

Guests participating in our revegetation programme will receive a certificate confirming:

  • The native plant species you planted.
  • Where you planted them (GPS co-ordinates).
  • Our undertaking to help protect your plants thus helping to restoring the ecosystem relevant to this part of the planet.

Guests should Bring

  • A camera.
  • Suitable and comfortable footwear for walking on village footpaths, sandy beaches and grassland.
  • Suitable outdoor clothing (including a wind and water proof jacket).
  • Sunhat and sunglasses.
  • Funds to pay for your own lunch and to purchase local produce.
  • Your safety is one of our key concerns so please bring any medication you may require (including medication for allergies)

Kiwi Outdoors

Our outdoors are relatively benign as we have no snakes or other nasties.

We live on small islands between two large expanses of sea. Consequently, we can experience daily variations in our weather. Planet Ecotours will lend guests quality kiwi designed umbrellas if required.
